2008 EEO Public File Report - KCME 88.7 FM

The purpose of this EEO Public File Report (Annual EEO Report) is to comply with Section 73.2080(c)(6) of the FCC s Equal Employment Rules. This Annual EEO Report summarizes the relevant hiring and EEO outreach conducted by the following station.

The information contained in this Annual EEO Report covers the time period from December 1, 2007 to, and including, December 1, 2008 (the Applicable Period). Consistent with the FCC's Rules, this Annual EEO Report contains the following information:

  1. A list of all full-time vacancies filled by the Station(s) during the Applicable Period;
  2. For each such vacancy, the recruitment source(s) utilized to fill the vacancy, including any such sources that have asked to receive information from the station(s) about any new job openings, which are separately identified;
  3. The recruitment source that referred the Hiree for each full-time vacancy filled during the Applicable Period;
  4. Data reflecting the total number of persons interviewed for all full-time vacancies during the Applicable Period and the total number of interviewees referred by each recruitment source utilized in connection with such vacancies; and
  5. A list and brief description of the community outreach activities, not directly related to the opening of job positions, undertaken by the station(s) during the Applicable Period.

The following sections provide the required information, and summarize the station(s) EEO efforts during the Applicable Period. This Annual Report was placed in each station s public inspection file on December 1, 2007, and posted on the stations web site, in accordance with the FCC s EEO Rules.

SECTION 3: Supplemental (Non-Vacancy Specific) Recruitment Activities Undertaken
Time Period Covered: December 1, 2007-December 1, 2008
Station in Employment Unit: KCME 88.7 FM

  1. Internship Program:  KCME offers an intern program to train qualified candidates for classical music on-air host announcing positions. The ideal applicant for the intern program has knowledge of classical music, clarity of enunciation and knowledge of major foreign languages.  Training includes on-air protocol specific to classical music, and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) mandated procedures such as Emergency Alert System (EAS) protocols, maintenance of FCC documents and reporting procedures.  During the reporting time period, KCME received over fifty (50) resumes, of which twenty (20) were interviewed and five (5) were offered admission into the internship program.  Out of those admitted, two (2) intern program “graduates” were hired during the report time period.
  2. Community Arts Fair:   KCME acted as a major sponsor and hosted a booth at ArtsFest in Castle Rock, Colorado on September 6-7, 2008.  Management and staff members distributed information about the Internship Program and the Membership Coordinator position.
  3. Job Fair:   KCME participated as a media sponsor and had an on-site presence at the Urban League Community Job Fair “Colors of Community” on September 13, 2008 in Colorado Springs.  The event hosted more than twenty-five (25) local organizations and employers and was designed to educate and connect minority professionals to career and civic engagement opportunities and to increase awareness of specific recruitment, hiring, selection, and participation processes in the community.  KCME’s General Manager served on the Board of Directors for this event as the Director of Media Relations with the responsibility of contacting all radio and television stations to cover the event.
  4. Web/On-Air:  KCME maintains active job postings on its website at:  http://kcme.org/Pages/employment.html and regularly plays on-air announcements regarding the Internship Program and any open staff positions.
