in 1917, American ragtime composer Scott Joplin died in Manhattan State Hospital, New York at the age of 48
in 1924, the Paul Whiteman Orchestra made its first performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City
in 1930, Cosima Wagner died at Bayreuth at the age of 92, 47 years after Wagner's death. She was married first to Hans Von Bulow and then to Richard Wagner
in 1991, ballet director Martha Graham died at the age of 96
