in 1920, Enrico Caruso made his final performance at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, singing Eleazar in La Juive by Halévy
in 1935, Austrian composer Alban Berg died in Vienna at the age of 50
in 1951, Gian Carlo Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors was premiered with a live Christmas Eve broadcast on the NBC-TV network
in 1979, at 8:00 pm, 88.7 KCME-FM was heard for the very first time as the Christmas Portion of Handel’s Messiah was played (see 8 pm below)
