Join Rabbi Howard Hirsch, founder of the Center for Christian-Jewish Dialogue, for an evening of stories and song: Hanukkah: Festival of Lights. KCME presents an encore airing of Festival of Lights on Monday, December 26 at 8 p.m.

Welcome Christmas! 2011 with VocalEssence

Sunday, Dec. 18, 7-8 p.m.

Described as “one of the irreplaceable music ensembles of our time” by the National Endowment of the Arts, Minneapolis-based VocalEssence has collaborated with iconic composer Aaron Copland, gospel group Sweet Honey in the Rock, and is a frequent guest on NPR’s homespun Prairie Home Companion. This brilliantly versatile choir hails the Christmas season with an hour of traditional and modern carols directed by Philip Brunelle.

 

La Nochebuena with the Rose Ensemble

Monday, Dec. 19, 8-9 p.m. | Saturday, Dec. 24, 9-10 p.m.

The highly-acclaimed Rose Ensemble travels to Renaissance Spain for a celebration of folk songs, lively dances and regal choral music celebrating Christmas Eve, La Nochebuena. KCME listeners have two opportunities to hear this joyous trip back in time: Monday, December 19 at 8:00 pm and Christmas Eve at 9:00 pm.

 

Madrigalia 2011

Tuesday, Dec. 20, 8-9 p.m.

From the Downtown United Presbyterian Church in Rochester, NY, Madrigalia presents A Day Full of Grace, an eclectic program replete with angel choirs, adoring shepherds and shining stars.

 

Music of the Baroque

Thursday, Dec. 22, 8-10 p.m. | Saturday, Dec. 24, 6-8 p.m.

Spend an evening wrapping presents accompanied by regal fanfares and angelic singing as Peter Van de Graaf hosts Music of the Baroque from downtown Chicago, a 16th and 17th century extravaganza of brass and choral music presented by nearly 60 world-class musicians. You’ll have another chance to hear this majestic concert on Christmas Eve at 6 p.m.

 

Chanticleer Christmas 2011

Friday, Dec. 23, 8-9 p.m.

If you have never heard San Francisco-based Chanticleer, tune in December 23 at 8pm and wonder how these twelve men cover such a boundless spectrum of vocal colors and ranges. Grammy-award winning Chanticleer presents a Christmas program spanning from medieval English carols and chants to modern arrangements of classic holiday melodies.

St. Olaf Christmas Festival 2011

At 3:00 on Christmas Day, join KCME for one of the oldest holiday music celebrations in the United States. Since 1912, the choirs and orchestra of St. Olaf College have presented a joyous Christmas festival which features more than 500 student musicians.
